David Wanyoike Warui of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) has won the Kariobangi North Ward by-election after garnering 2,282 votes, according to results announced by IEBC at the tallying centre.
Independent candidate Kimanzi John Katua followed with 1,956 votes, while Michael Ouma Majua of ODM finished third with 1,351 votes. Njoka Julius Maina of UDA received 955 votes, and Peter Kariuki of Kanu got 220 votes.
The victory adds to DCP’s growing influence in Nairobi, coming shortly after the party captured the Kisa East Ward in Kwisero constituency. Leaders and supporters said the latest result strengthens the party’s push as it prepares for the 2027 General Election.
After being declared the winner, Warui addressed supporters with a message aimed at easing political tension and bringing the community together.
“Politics is not enmity; life must continue. I ask my rivals to come and let us work together,” he said, urging unity among those who participated in the race.
Warui said the result is not only a win for Kariobangi North but also a strong signal of DCP’s rising profile nationally.
“When Nairobi speaks, the nation has spoken. This win is a statement of what we should expect in the 2027 General Election. My win means DCP will be a formidable force in the 2027 elections,” he said.
The by-election was held following the death of former ward representative Joel Munuve, creating a contest that drew interest from various parties and independent candidates.
With the seat now secured, DCP is expected to build on the momentum as it strengthens its grassroots presence and positions itself for upcoming political battles.
